Organic Colorado winemaker pours in Avon
Vail, CO Colorado
AVON – Organic and biodynamic Colorado winemaker Lance Hanson of Jack Rabbit Hill, will show off his wines Wednesday at Avon, Colorado’s vin48 as part of the restaurant and wine bar’s weekly tasting series.
Jack Rabbit Hill is a 70-acre farm located on Redlands Mesa, near Hotchkiss, Colorado. Jack Rabbit Hill makes wines from 22 acres of certified-biodynamic vineyards. Jack Rabbit Hill is also home to the Peak Spirits distillery, makers of Caprock organic gin and vodka. It also has 20 acres of pasture with small families of cattle, sheep, and chickens, and 12 acres of protected wildlife habitat.
“The Jack Rabbit Hill property teems with life, and biodynamic practices offer us the best way to tap into nature’s storehouse for growing wines with great character,” said Lance Hanson, owner of Jack Rabbit Hill.
Soil, plant and wine vitality are supported with a range of holistic biodynamic practices: composting for building soils, compost and herb teas for plant nutrition, habitat for diverse insects and microorganisms for balancing pests, and livestock for manuring. No synthetic fertilizers or biocides are used at Jack Rabbit Hill.
The Cox Vineyard Single Vineyard Sauv Blanc 2007, Upper West Side Estate Biodynamic Chardonnay 2008, Dill Farm Single Vineyard Organic Riesling 2008, Barn Red Estate Organic Meritage 2007 will be poured at the tasting. Vin48’s chef/owner, Charles Hayes, will pair the wines with appetizers.
“I think our guests will be very surprised with the quality of these organic Colorado wines,” said Greg Eynon, owner and wine director of vin48. “The wines are sustainable, local and seem to improve in quality year after year.”
