Our View: Hooray for Vail’s Snow Daze
Vail Resorts and promoter Highline Sports & Entertainment should be commended for this years Vail Snow Daze musical lineup. Last years inaugural event brought Counting Crows to town. Forget one night and one big name this year theres three nights and four big names. Even better, no ticket is more than $50; Ziggy Marley and Social Distortion are only $25.Despite a few not-so-positive Web comments concerning Ludacris spot on the schedule, most of the feedback weve heard regarding the lineup is positive Social D is leading ticket sales and will likely sell out; local high schoolers are amped for Ludacris; reggae junkies are excited for a Marley fix; socially-conscious hip-hop fans are rallying for The Roots. The bottom line is Vails demographic is largely made up of youngsters and the young-at-heart, people whose iPods are filled with rap, reggae, hip-hop and even a little punk. The folks at Vail Resorts and Highline obviously realize this and are booking a variety of modern musical acts to appeal to both locals and tourists alike. After all, todays youngsters are tomorrows tourists and second-home owners. Getting them hooked on Vail now will keep Vail successful in the future. At the rate Snow Daze has taken off, maybe the White Stripes will be rocking a sold-out crowd at Ford Park a few seasons from now. Regardless, if we want to continue to see this level of talent coming to town, its important to support these shows. Caramie Schnell for the Editorial Board
