Outformation to play free show at Copper Sunday
Vail, CO, Colorado
COPPER MOUNTAIN ” Opening weekends occur every year, but one of the musical performances at Copper Mountain’s kickoff will be something totally unique. That’s because the drummer for Outformation, which was scheduled to play with their full member lineup, couldn’t make it. So Sam Holt, former Widespread Panic guitar tech, CR Gruver and Jeff Lane of Outformation have added some of their Colorado musician friends to fill in.
Drummer Dave Watts and bass player Garrett Sayers from the Motet, sax player Cecil P-Nut Daniels, and guitarist Tori Pater from Polytoxic will join in for the 90-minute set, which is free on Sunday at Burning Stones Plaza.
Outformation recently released their second album, “Traveler’s Rest,” the first with members Lane and Gruver. Gruver joined up with Outformation after a fateful meeting of bands at the Goat in Keystone.
“It was immediate that we played together well,” Gruver said. “I fell right in with what they were doing.”
He speaks of their relationship with Widespread Panic as a positive influence.
“Certain members of the band have grown up with Widespread, so there’s that aspect, but they’re also role models ” their business model and the way they conduct themselves professionally,” Gruver said.
Outformation is touring in support of their new release. After the Copper Mountain gig, the next time the band (in full) will be in Colorado will be for a couple shows at the Gothic Theatre in Englewood for New Year’s Eve.
