VAIL, Colorado ” The National Weather Service was put in effect a winter storm watch for this afternoon for the Vail area through Sunday afternoon.
A strong Pacific storm system is headed this way, the agency said.
“Snow will increase across the mountains Saturday afternoon ahead of a strong cold front and then intensify during the evening as the front passes over the area,” the service said. “Snow will continue through Sunday with over a foot of new snow possible by early Sunday evening.”
Vail’s Blue Sky Basin and Beaver Creek’s Grouse Mountain are both set to open today.
