EAGLE ” A woman whose dog bit a 2-year-old girl pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of owning a dangerous dog Thursday.

Donna Griffin, of Singletree, pleaded no contest to ownership of a dangerous dog causing serious bodily injury and paid a $100 fine, said Mark Hurlbert, Eagle County district attorney.

Griffin, who paid $4,000 in restitution for medical bills, will not go to jail, he said.

In July 2006, Griffin’s dog Max bit 2-year-old Zoie Palmer. The girl suffered multiple cuts to her face and has undergone several surgeries. Griffin put her dog to sleep.

Prosecutors did not ask that Griffin serve time in jail, Hurlbert said.

Griffin’s dog had never bit anyone before and Griffin had no idea this would happen, Hurlbert said.
