The Palisade Peach Festival is celebrating 125 years of peaches and 50 years of the Palisade Peach Festival on Aug. 15-18.
“We’re honoring the hard work, dedication, pride and tender loving care generations of growers dedicate to producing the sweetest, juiciest peaches, cherished across the country,” said Juliann Adams, executive director of Palisade Chamber of Commerce.
Pre-festival activities start Wednesday, Aug. 15, with Peach Night at the Grand Junction Rockies with the Peach Queen Bella pitching the “first peach.” There will be peaches, peach drinks, peach salsa condiments and other peachy activities. On Thursday night, Aug. 16, an ice cream social and street dance will take to the streets of downtown Palisade. The free event features ice cream topped with peaches, a live band and a crowning of the royalty.
On Friday, Aug. 17, gates open at 3 p.m. at Riverbend Park for Jakes Jungle for Kids, featuring free activities, games and a coloring contest. The festival also includes a peach eating contest, and vendors are encouraged to add peach dishes to their menus. Soul Sacrifice headlines Friday’s musical lineup, featuring a tribute to the band Santana.
The Palisade Peach Festival wraps up Saturday, Aug. 18, with the Just Peach Run and the Peach Parade at 9 a.m., honoring generations of peach growers. There will also be a car show in Peach Bowl Park. Saturday’s festivities run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and include all of Friday’s activities plus a Peach BBQ Throw Down.
