Panel aims to keep Vail thriving

VAIL, Colorado ” Leaders from Vail Resorts and the town of Vail, Colorado will hold a panel discussion next week.

The forum, “Vail’s Competitive Edge: Addressing the Dynamics of an Evolving Economy,” will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Town Council Chambers.

During the session, Rob Katz, chief executive officer of Vail Resorts, and Dick Cleveland, mayor of Vail, will talk about what it will take to keep Vail thriving.

They’ll be joined by Kent Logan, a retired investment banker, former Vail councilman and member of Vail Citizens for Action, as well as Ralf Garrison, founder and senior analyst of the Mountain Travel Research Program.

Katz has been asked to share what Vail Resorts is doing to address the economic challenges and to offer ways in which the town government and the community can assist in those efforts.

Cleveland will address the need for Vail to be nimble to respond to changing conditions and to capitalize on Vail’s competitive edge.

Logan will introduce activities of the newly formed Vail Citizens for Action group which is working over the next 18 months to develop ideas for economic stimulus.

Garrison will conclude the presentations with an analysis on mountain tourism trends.
