Add Mikel “Pappy” Kerst to the list of new Eagle Town Board members.

Following swearing-in ceremonies last week, the newly seated Eagle Town Board unanimously selected Kerst to fill the remaining two years of Jon Stavney’s term. Stavney moved from town board member to the mayor’s position in the April 6 election.

Kerst, 42, a division chief for the Eagle River Fire District, was the runner-up in the recent election. He attended the April 13 Town Board meeting and told the town trustees that he was still interested in the position.

The Town Board can fill a vacancy however they choose, and were not necessarily required to fill the seat with the next-highest vote-getter.

“He requested the position, and we felt strongly he was a good fit,” said Stavney.

Kerst has lived in Eagle for eight years. He serves on the board of directors for the Greater Eagle Fire District, and is an adjunct fire science instructor for Colorado Mountain College.

He is a resident of the Terrace subdivision.
