Parachute cop suspected in sexual assault
Vail, CO Colorado
ASPEN, Colorado ” A Parachute police officer-in-training arrested on sexual assault charges was brought to Pitkin County for his own protection.
Kristopher Joe Duncan, 25, made his first appearance in the judge’s chambers of Pitkin County District Court in Aspen on Monday.
Garfield County sheriff’s deputies confirmed that Duncan was arrested Friday but could not provide any further details.
In the judge’s chambers, Duncan was charged with second-degree sexual assault, a class-four felony that carries a possible prison sentence of two years to life, Deputy District Attorney Gail Nichols said.
Judge Denise Lynch issued a protection order for the alleged victim, and Duncan was held in the Pitkin County jail on $7,500 bail.
Duncan was brought to Pitkin County for his own safety, Nichols said, explaining that if he were held in Garfield County jail, he might have contact with inmates he had previously arrested.
Nichols would not discuss details of the case in order to protect the alleged victim.
