Parachute fire half contained
PARACHUTE, Colorado ” A wildfire burning in Mesa County is about 50 percent contained.
The fire is five miles southwest of Parachute and was burning on about 150 acres on Tuesday morning.
It was sparked by lightning Monday evening and continued to burn until 11 p.m.
Bureau of Land Management spokesman David Boyd said people who live on a mesa above the fire have been warned about the blaze but no evacuations have been ordered.
Oil and gas wells in the area have been turned off.
