Parade and Taste of New Orleans also on the bill
VAIL – Vail’s Mardi Gras bash spills into Monday and Tuesday with Taste of New Orleans dine-around and the Fat Tuesday parade.The valley’s restaurants will feature the Cajun flavors of New Orleans during Taste of New Orleans, a new dine around event, Monday and Tuesday. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Ruli family, a New Orleans family displaced by Hurricane Katrina. In addition to their everyday selections, restaurants will offer special New Orleans inspired menu items. Participating restaurants include Bagali’s in West Vail, La Bottega in Vail, Larkspur in Golden Peak, Pazzo’s in Vail, Red Lion in Vail, The George in Vail, Garfinkle’s in Lionshead, Tap Room in Vail, La Tour in Vail, Flying Burrito in Lionshead and Montauk Seafood Grill in Lionshead.
Vail’s Mardi Gras celebration will culminate with the annual Fat Tuesday parade at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Local businesses, families, kids and pets are invited to dress-up, enter a float and join in the parade, which will travel from the International Bridge to Seibert Circle in Vail Village. “We are encouraging locals to create mini- floats using red wagons or big wheel tricycles,” said Ian Anderson, director of communications and marketing for the Vail Valley Chamber and Tourism Bureau.
Immediately following the Fat Tuesday parade, the winners of the Vail Mardi Gras king and queen contest will be crowned. Voting for the four local couples is taking place now at http://www.vaildaily.com on its news page. In addition to the crowning, there will be a king cake eating contest where five volunteers will race to finish eating a traditional Mardi Gras king cake first without using their hands. The winner will receive dinner for two at Game Creek Restaurant. Additional prizes will be awarded immediately after the parade in the following categories: Best Merchant/Business Float, Best Youth Float, Best Dressed Pet and Best Lift Operations Snow Sculpture.
