Party For The Planet in Edwards Saturday

Daily staff report
VAIL CO, Colorado

KZYR and the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability are coming together again this year to celebrate our beautiful mountain surroundings at “Party for the Planet.” The event, sponsored by Vail Honeywagon, is free and open to the public. Celebrate sustainable living at the park in front of Gore Range Brewery on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. This fun and family-friendly day is sure to be a crowd pleaser with food, non-profit and sustainable vendors, live music and a myriad of free earth friendly kid’s activities.

Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability will host family activities throughout the afternoon. Kids and adults alike can learn about worm composting and enjoy a hands-on demonstration. Steve Kiene, local artist, will be on hand to draw caricatures and Hailey Vest will delight kids with free face painting. Additionally, the ice cream lady will be on hand.

This year’s celebration will feature two local bands. Rock Out with Schwing Daddy from 1 to 3 p.m. and dance to Hardscrabble from 3 to 5 p.m. Schwing Daddy, featuring Karm Trygg and Tim Campbell, will play songs from their recent CD, which celebrates the Colorado lifestyle with Americana and country rock themes. Hardscrabble, another local favorite, will play a unique blend of traditional bluegrass and colorful renditions of crowd favorites. Both bands deliver lively shows aimed at audiences of all ages.

Food vendors will supply tasty eats and Gore Range Brewery will fill your mugs with home-crafted brews. Area non-profits will be on hand to provide activities, as well as education so that attendees can learn about our land, watershed, alpine plants and conservation. Vendors, such as Active Energies, will provide information on solar power and Energy Smart Colorado will be on hand to teach you how to reduce your carbon footprint. Proceeds from Party for the Planet benefit the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability.
