Passenger give buses high marks, ECO says

Daily Staff Report

This winter, 200 county bus passengers with interviewed by an Edwards marketing agency on behalf of Eagle County Regional Transit.Nearly 100 percent of passengers rated Eagle County Regional Transit, or ECO, good or excellent on safe driving, cleanliness of buses, and a host of other categories, says ECO Transit Director Harry Taylor. Ratings were based on a one to five-point scale.”I’m a bit surprised,” Taylor said. “I expected that ECO would be considered well above average, but these are really, really high.”Taylor attributes rider satisfaction with the following aspects of the service:– Reliability: more than nine out of 10 passengers rated ECO Transit good or excellent for reliability.– Timeliness: Despite unpredictable weather, 95 percent of passengers gave ECO high marks for timeliness. ECO has become better at forecasting travel time between every stop on every route, and accounting for weather conditions, loading and unloading passengers, and driver breaks in making its schedules, Taylor says. — Safe Driving and Driver Courtesy: Almost every rider gave ECO high marks in this category, Taylor says. ECO provides about 120 hours of training for every new bus operator, and a continuous training for seasoned drivers. ECO drivers log over one million miles per year.– Cleanliness of Buses: All 200 passengers surveyed rated ECO Transit buses good or excellent for cleanliness. Two bus washers fuel, wash and clean ECO’s 28-bus fleet, Taylor says. “We’re just plain fortunate too,” says Taylor. “Our employees are stellar, and we have friendly, loyal passengers.”Vail Colorado
