Paul Cuthbertson is remembered as a mountain sports athlete with a zeal for life who internalized the phrase “Live for Those Who Cannot” after losing friends and family before their time.

The Paul Cuthbertson Foundation will host its annual Dine for a Cause fundraiser at Harvest Restaurant in Edwards on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 14, to support its scholarship fund for local youth pursuing sports, education, music or the arts. The Sonnenalp/Harvest has graciously agreed to donate a percentage of the food and beverage sales that night to the Paul Cuthbertson Foundation.

The Paul Cuthbertson Foundation was founded in 2019 in honor of Cuthbertson, a talented ski racer who competed for Ski and Snowboard Club Vail from ages 5 to 19. Cuthbertson died in the spring of 2019.

The foundation’s scholarships are awarded to youth and young adults ages 13 to 25 who “demonstrate a financial need, have a strong work ethic, are dedicated to mentoring other youth and are deeply involved in their community,” according to the organization’s website.

Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 and are awarded to applicants who live locally or have “strong ties” to the mountain community.

Among the 2024 recipients of the scholarship are Daniel Becerra, a star on the soccer pitch at Battle Mountain High School, and Audrey Crowley, an Eagle local who is a member of the U.S. Para Alpine Ski Team.

Crowley has been a legacy recipient, receiving a scholarship for the past four years since the foundation was founded. The two exemplify the Paul Cuthbertson Foundation’s mission of helping passionate mountain youth pursue their dreams and goals in life.

In addition to being a leader, Becerra has a broad range of talents in sports and the arts. The Paul Cuthbertson Foundation was honored to help support his continued success in soccer and help him pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer and starting his own clothing brand.
