Peaberry Coffee to close up to 13 Colorado shops

DENVER – Peaberry Coffee Inc. has said it will close up to 13 of its shops and focus more on franchising and coffee-bean sales.Some of the Denver-based company’s 250 employees could lose their jobs but others could transfer to shops that stay open, Peaberry president Bill Tointon said Monday.Peaberry also announced Monday it will launch a Web site to sell beans directly to consumers.Peaberry has 28 locations along the Front Range. At least two in Denver are expected to stay open, along with shops in Boulder, Centennial, Colorado Springs, Greenwood Village, Lakewood, Littleton and Longmont.Tointon founded the privately held company in 1990.
