Penry announces he’s running for Colorado governor

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – Colorado state Sen. Josh Penry says he’s joining the field of Republicans seeking to challenge Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter.

Penry revealed his plans Saturday in his hometown of Grand Junction.

Two other Republicans have already entered the race, including his former boss Congressman Scott McInnis. Penry worked as an aide for him in Washington. Evergreen Dan Maes is also seeking the GOP nomination.

Penry is the leader of minority Republicans in the state Senate.
