Peter Lilischkies, 1936-2007
Peter Lilischkies, a former local restaurateur, died June 27 in San Carlos, Mexico.
Friends remember Lilischkies as having an “ornery” spirit and a kind heart for others.
Born in Memel, Prussia, in 1936, Lilischkies immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1955.
From Canada, Lilischkies traveled to California to run a bakery.
Born with an adventurous spirit, Lilischkies went to diving school, and a 25-year career in Louisiana as a deep sea diver.
He moved to Colorado, where he bought the Eagle-Vail Cafe from Helmut and his sister-in-law Renate. He sold the cafe in 1997 and moved to San Carlos.
Lilischkies is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter Corinna; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Helmut, sister-in-law Renate and nephew Ron.
A celebration of Lilischkies’ life will be held at Helmut and Renate’s home at 241 Castle Peak Ranch Road near Eagle on Sunday at 1 p.m.
