Petition effort to ban abortion continues in Colorado
DENVER, Colorado – An effort to try again to ban abortion through a Colorado ballot measure continues as proponents plan to gather signatures at a Christian conference at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
Personhood Colorado volunteers will gather signatures Friday for a ballot measure that would add fertilized embryos to the definition of humans in the state Constitution. If approved, supporters say the amendment would make abortion illegal.
But a similar measure on ballot last year was rejected by 73 percent of the voters. Personhood Colorado supporters say they will try again on 2010 ballots. Similar ballot attempts are in the works in at least a half-dozen other states.
