Paintings by the late artist and ski legend Erich Windisch will be displayed in the Vail Public Library’s Community Room through Friday, Jan. 15. This year, the collection will feature views of the artist’s favorite mountain, the Matterhorn, which he climbed several times. Windisch’s accomplishments and contributions to the ski industry, both locally and internationally, include revolutionizing ski jumping technique, which is still used today; membership on the German Olympic ski team in 1952; and induction into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame in 1994. “Painting was a passion for my father,” Sasha Windisch said. “He often said ‘beauty is my prerogative.’” The Vail library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 970-479-2184 for more information.
