Pianist Arnaldo Cohen performs with Philadelphia Orchestra
Vail CO, Colorado
VAIL ” Lead by Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya, The Philadelphia Orchestra will play the fifth in a series of six concerts tonight at 6 p.m. at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.
Although the three composers featured at the concert wrote during roughly the same time period, they came from very different geographical regions. Falla, Dvorak and Revueltas were each influenced by the folk-music traditions of their respective countries, which concert-goers will quickly recognize. Dvorak’s celebratory “G Major Symphony” offers an intesely Czech flavor, while Manuel De Falla’s “Nights in the Garden of Spain” depicts the Catalan hillsides. Following intermission, audience members will be exposed to the Latin American themes found in Mexican composer Revueltas’ “La noche de los Mayas.”
Joining the Philadelphia Orchestra tonight on Falla’s “Nights in the Garden of Spain” will be Brazilian-born pianist Arnaldo Cohen. Cohen enjoys an increasingly successful career that has taken him to many major concert halls throughout Europe and North and South America. The New York Times declared him “technically flawless in treacherously difficult selections” and called his performance “a model of balance and imagination.” His command of the keyboard compliments the orchestra’s sound.
