Piano and organ share the stage with philharmonic
VAIL The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival continues the celebration of its 20th Anniversary Season with a performance by the New York Philharmonic and pianist Garrick Ohlsson. Sir Andrew Davis will lead the philharmonic in their second performance of its residency.Since winning the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as a world-class musician. Ohlsson commands an enormous repertoire, which ranges over the entire piano literature. His concerto repertoire ranges from Haydn and Mozart to works of the 21st century and to date knows 80 concertos. Ohlsson will join the New York Philharmonic to perform Prokofievs Concerto No. 3 in C Major for Piano and Orchestra.
Under the direction of Davis, the New York Philharmonic will open the concert with the dramatic and emotional Leonore Overture No. 3. The performance will conclude with Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 78, Organ, featuring New York Philharmonic principal organist Kent Tritle. Saint-Saens Third Symphony (his last) was composed at the request of the Philharmonic Society of London and is dedicated to the memory of Franz Liszt, a bastion of Romanticism. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $23 for general admission lawn seating, $62 for regular reserved seating and $84 for premium reserved seating.
