Pile burning in West Vail this weekend

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – Crews from Vail Fire and Emergency Services will conduct pile burn operations in the West Vail area on the north and south sides of the interstate through Sunday, weather permitting. About 45 piles from this year’s tree cutting projects remain to be burned. The burn areas are in the Buffehr Creek area on the north side of the interstate, plus the Bellflower area and the top of Geneva Drive on the south sides of the interstate.

Pile burning is dependent on environmental conditions that allow smoke to rise and disperse rather than settling onto the highway and into residential areas. In most cases, burning will only occur when there is adequate snow cover to minimize risks. Smoke and flames may be visible from various points along Interstate 70 and some smoke may settle into lower elevations in the evening hours.

Anyone who may have health problems that may be aggravated by smoke production should notify Tom Talbot with Vail Fire and Emergency Services at 970-401-4202.
