Did you know that the entire forecasting area for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center is the size of four Switzerlands? This area is divided between seven backcountry forecasters and seven forecasters dedicated to CDOT. On any given day, one forecaster may be responsible for the avalanche hazard outlook for eight to 10 zones plus answer emails, tweet updates, forecast the weather and attend meetings. Fifty percent of all funding comes from the public. Please help us raise the funds needed to hire more backcountry forecasters, keep the CAIC website updated and retain free and low cost avalanche classes. Come hug a forecaster, win some great swag and support your local avalanche information center on April 17 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at e|town in Edwards. A $20 suggested donation at the door gets you one drink coupon and one raffle ticket. Ten percent of all sales will go to CAIC.
