Police say arrest made in 1975 western Colorado murders
GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” Grand Junction police have made an arrest in the 1975 slayings of a woman and her daughter.
Police spokeswoman Kate Porras confirmed the arrest Thursday evening, but said authorities are not yet releasing the suspect’s name because the investigation is ongoing.
Porras says investigators will release more information after the male suspect’s arraignment, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in Mesa County District Court.
Twenty-four-year-old Linda Benson and her 5-year-old daughter, Kelley, were found dead in their apartment on July 25, 1975. Autopsies showed they were each stabbed multiple times in the chest.
Linda Benson’s brother, Mark Himmerite, told The Daily Sentinel newspaper that police informed him of the arrest but were being “fairly close-lipped” about the details.
