Police: Wrong-way driver had meth in Vail Valley

AVON ” A homeless woman was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of methamphetamine after she allegedly drove the wrong way down a Beaver Creek road.

Heather Herrera, 35, was charged with possession of 1.4 grams of methamphetamine, careless driving, driving a vehicle while revoked as a habitual traffic offender, and displaying an altered tab title sticker plate.

At about 1:55 a.m., an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a car after witnessing a vehicle driving in the turn lane through the Elk parking lot, turning into the bus lane, and then proceeding the wrong way down Village Road, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Herrera was also wanted on five outstanding warrants for a weapons charge, failure to appear, and contempt of court, police said.

Herrera was taken to the Eagle County Detention Facility and was being held on a $7,500 bond.
