Polis: Demise of old media ‘mostly for the better’
DENVER ” Colorado Democratic congressman Jared Polis has said online journalism is responsible for the demise of the Rocky Mountain News and other traditional news outlets, and he says that’s “mostly for the better.”
The Denver Post reported Polis’ remarks Tuesday. He made them last weekend at an event sponsored by Netroots Nation, a progressive political group.
In a recording of his remarks, Polis says, “I have to say, that when we say, ‘Who killed the Rocky Mountain News,’ we’re all part of it, for better or worse, and I argue it’s mostly for the better.”
The News published its last edition Friday.
Later, Polis tempered his remarks, telling The Post the closure of the News cost 200 jobs and silenced a voice in the state.
