Political rivals in Colorado seek alliance against three ballot initiatives

Aldo SvaldiThe Denver PostVail, CO Colorado

Colorado’s business and political leaders are searching for ways to mend fences and join forces after a divisive legislative session. The common enemy that could reunite them is three November ballot measures that seek to reduce the taxes collected for roads, bridges and schools.Denver law firm Snell & Wilmer gathered Gov. Bill Ritter, the state’s incoming majority and minority legislative leaders, and representatives from six different business groups last week to discuss rebuilding the partnership between business and politics.Politicians of both parties, educators, and union and business leaders need to stand against the ballot measures at every turn, said Perry Pearce, chairman of the Colorado Competitive Council and manager of ConocoPhillips’ Rocky Mountain Region.”I do not believe the business community can defeat these measures,” he said, adding that the campaign will be a test of whether the two sides can work together again.Ritter pledged to rally against the three ballot measures at every speech he gives until the vote in November.”They are devastating to the state economy,” he said. For more of this Denver Post story: http://www.denverpost.com/ci_15147501
