Polls are open in Vail Valley today
Here’s a rundown of the races in which Vail Valley voters will cast ballot Tuesday:
Candidates: Four candidates are running for three open spots on the Vail Recreation District board of directors. The candidates are:• John Donovan, who lives in East Vail and works at Los Amigos.• Joe Hanlon, an incumbent who lives in the Sandstone area and is self-employed.• Rick Sackbauer, an incumbent who lives in the Highland Meadows area and works for Vail Resorts Development Co.• Ken Wilson, an incumbent who lives in the Potato Patch area and is self-employed as a real estate broker.Where to vote: Voters will cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Vail Municipal Building, 75 South Frontage Road. The newly elected members will join board of directors members Jeff Wiles and Michelle Hall, whose terms run to May 2012. A chairperson and secretary treasurer will be elected from among the board of directors, and each will serve a two-year term.
Candidates: Six candidates are vying for three seats on the Eagle-Vail Metropolitan District board.• Tom Allender, incumbent, is a director of resort planning with Vail Resorts.• Reed Ford, incumbent, is a retired information-technology entrepreneur.• Carl Luppens is a rancher and real estate developer who lives in Eagle-Vail half the time and plans to live there full-time• Steven Kirchner is a property manager with Eagle Eye Home Management Inc.• Jane Ross is a broker associate with Vail Realty.• Keith Odza works in hospitality.When to vote: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Eagle-Vail pavilion.Eligible to vote: Registered voters who live in Eagle-Vail (includes renters) or own a home in Eagle-Vail. Candidates: Two candidates each in races for two open seats on five-member board of directors.District 2• Jeff Boock, Minturn resident and former Eagle River Fire District firefighter.• Mike Gallagher, incumbent, Minturn resident, former fire and police chief of Minturn and former Eagle County commissioner.District 4• Al Bosworth, of Edwards, Vail Fire Department engineer.• John McCaulley, incumbent, Edwards resident and 25-year veteran and retired deputy chief with Eagle River Fire District.Where to vote:• Town of Minturn office: 302 Pine St., Minturn• Eagle River Fire Protection District office: 351 Benchmark Road, Avon• Eagle County Health Service District office: 1065 Edwards Village Blvd., Edwards (also a polling place for Eagle River Fire Protection District).Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The candidates are:• Robyn Forsyth – an incumbent board member, Forsyth is employed by Eagle River Water and Sanitation District.• Nathan Nelson – an incumbent board member, Nelson is employed by Colorado Business Bank.• Michael Trujillo – a newcomer to the board, Trujillo is employed by Colorado Mountain College.• Georgie Zinda – a newcomer to the board, Zinda is retired.Also on the ballot is Christopher Dick, the sole candidate for a two-year term on the fire district board.Where to vote: Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 4 at the Eagle Fire Station, located at 425 East Third Street in Eagle. The candidates are:• Chris Meister – an incumbent board member, Meister is president of Meister Builders.• Art Hoehn – an incumbent board member, Hoehn is president of HCB inc.• Mara Garton – an incumbent board member, Garton’s place of employment was unable to be confirmed by press time.• Bob Rulon – a newcomer to the board, Rulon is employed by Land Title Guarantee Company.Where to vote: Votes will be accepted 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gypsum Town Hall
