VAIL — The World Pond Skimming Championships, presented by Red Bull, return to Vail Mountain’s Golden Peak base area for the 12th year on April 20. Skimmers from far and wide will gather in Vail to test their buoyancy on Lake Golden Peak for the chance at the title of 2014 World Pond Skimming Champion and the grand prize — an Epic Pass for the 2014-15 season, a pair of Liberty Skis and a Helly Hansen base layer.

The closing day tradition of donning costumes and skimming across icy water at the legendary World Pond Skimming Championships holds strong as 75 participants will careen themselves off a snow jump in the hopes of coming out on the other side on April 20.

The spectacle defies the laws of physics and common sense as a panel of highly-skilled judges scores each competitor on distance, style, creativity and water resistance.

The field is limited to 75 participants ages 14 and older on a first-come, first-served basis. Each competitor will also receive a complimentary Helly Hansen Helly Hansen Dry Baselayer to keep warm and dry following their pond skimming run.
