EDWARDS — Have you always wanted to try your hand at making pottery? Many have fulfilled their dream with the pottery studio at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards. With potter’s wheels, five kilns and a large sunny work space, this is a great place to spend your time this season. Start that long overdue do-it-yourself project that you have been longing for.
Classes will start Thursday with artist and teacher Colleen Everett.
The first session runs eight weeks through mid-October on Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“The class is a fun and social, hands-on clay workshop that will focus on getting ideas and making art with ceramics,” Everett said.
Everett has won teacher of the year awards for her work with continuing education classes in pottery, sculpture and mosaics. She has a long and impressive career as a ceramic artist showing at the Contemporary Crafts Museum in New York City, Seattle Arts Museum and many other galleries across the nation. Her white porcelain, juggling waiter teapot is in The White House Collection of Contemporary American Crafts.
“A wide variety of techniques will be taught to allow you to explore your expressive side,” she said. “All levels of students will enjoy the light and well-equipped pottery studio at CMC in Edwards. I work with students from the beginning, wet clay forming techniques, through the finish glazing surfaces — we finish the pieces before the end of the session.”
Class registration includes unlimited open studio time during college open hours for you to continue working at your own schedule. The workshop costs $175 and the class code is 85212. You can register today at the college campus, located at 150 Miller Ranch Road in Edwards, or online at coloradomtn.edu.
