Power back up between Eagle, Avon

EAGLE COUNTY — Many residents and businesses in the mid-to-lower valley experienced a couple hours of electric power outages Monday morning, according to Holy Cross Energy.

The problem is likely at the Wolcott substation, and crews were still working as of 1 p.m. to determine the exact cause of the problem.

“There is a lot of protection equipment throughout the substation, and if something goes out there, it’s like tripping a breaker at home — all the power goes out. With all the feeders that go out from that substation, it was probably something like that (that caused the outage,)” said Holy Cross Manager of Member Services Steve Casey.

Holy Cross Energy was able to “back feed” power from the Avon station in order to restore power to homes and businesses while the problems at the Wolcott station were investigated. Power was restored to most places by late morning.
