Special to the Daily B'nai Vail hosts an early Hanukkah party Friday with musician Hal Aqua.

Vail Daily, Vail Colorado, COVAIL – To celebrate Hanukkah early, B’nai Vail hosts a family service Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with Jewish songleader Hal Aqua at the Vail Interfaith Chapel in Vail Chapel. A pot-luck dinner will follow the serice.

Aqua is a Jewish songleader, prayer leader, musician, and teacher. He serves as part-time Music Director of B’nai Havurah, a Reconstructionist community in Denver, and has provided songleading and music for congregations in Denver, Evergreen, Boulder, Fort Collins, Greeley and Santa Fe. In addition to working with many rabbis at services and life cycle events, Aqua is an accomplished shaliach tzibbur (prayer leader) in Reform, Reconstructionist and Renewal settings.Aqua has also taught classes in the history of Jewish music and the music of prayer at Denver’s Florence Melton Adult Mini-School. He has presented workshops and classes in Jewish world music for numerous Jewish communities in Colorado. He teaches music and prayer to children at the religious schools of B’nai Havurah and Beth Evergreen. Aqua founded and performs with Los Lantzmun, a seven-piece Jewish world beat ensemble. The band has a wide following in the Denver/Boulder area, playing at events and simchas in the Jewish community as well as concerts for wider audiences. Los Lantzmun has recorded two self-produced CDs of lively klezmer, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-fusion music. Aqua also performs at schools, libraries and family events as Cowboy Hersh, a silly singing cowboy for kids.In tonight’s performance, Aqua will be accompanied by guitar, mandolin, Middle Eastern lutes and hand drums.
