Prep notebook: 3 Eagle County volleyball teams ready for regional tournaments
No. 4 Battle Mountain earned hosting rights after finishing the year with a 21-1 record
Three Eagle County volleyball teams will compete in regional tournaments this week, with one school earning home court advantage.
No. 4 Battle Mountain will host the 4A Region 4 tournament on Saturday, opening the action against No. 33 Discovery Canyon at 11 a.m. in Edwards. The Huskies will face No. 21 Standley Lake in the third game of the round-robin, with the winner earning a spot at the state tournament at the Denver Coliseum from Nov. 14-16.
Battle Mountain closed out the regular season going 3-1 in a tournament last weekend. The Huskies swept Valley (25-20, 25-15) and Rifle (25-16, 25-17) before losing their first game of the season to Palisade (25-6, 25-11). The Bulldogs enter the postseason as the third seed in the state. Battle Mountain finished the season with a 21-1 mark after defeating Glenwood Springs (25-27, 25-18, 17-15) on Saturday.
Last year, the Huskies entered the 4A Region 12 tournament as the 25th seed before dropping two-straight matches to No. 12 The Classical Academy and No. 13 Mullen. The Huskies’ last state tournament appearance came in 2014.
Eagle Valley finished the regular season with a 3-1 win over Summit on Oct. 30 and a 3-0 sweep of Rifle the following day to earn the 26th seed in the 4A tournament. The Devils will travel to Palmer Ridge to face the No. 11 Bears at 9 a.m. on Saturday and No. 14 Green Mountain in the following match.

Eagle Valley (11-12 overall, 8-4 league) won the Region 7 title last year, punching a ticket to state for the first time since 2016.
No. 14 Vail Christian (15-6 overall, 7-3 league) will travel to Heritage Christian for the 2A Region 11 tournament on Friday. The host Eagles (19-4) will face No. 26 Calhan at 2:30 p.m. The Saints will play the Bulldogs (15-8) in the following game before taking on Heritage Christian in the third and final match.
Last year, the Saints were bounced from the regional round after a five-set loss to Ignacio on their home floor. Vail Christian last made the state tournament in 2022.
