Prep notebook: Eagle Valley football wins home opener over Evergreen

Saints and Huskies volleyball pick up wins

Eagle Valley’s football team collected its first win of the season on Friday. The Devils used a successful air raid, led by quarterback Caiven Lake and senior receivers Camden Carle and Kevin Hasley, to storm to a 26-7 win over Evergreen in their first home contest of the season. Eagle Valley’s defensive front — Caleb Barrett, Miles Jaramillo, Edgar Ruiz, Noah Denise and Stef Swanepoel — collected multiple sacks to stifle the Cougar offense.

Volleyball notes: Vail Christian wins second in a row

Vail Christian picked up a 3-0 win over Caprock Academy on Friday night in Edwards; it was the Saints’ second-consecutive win. The Eagles were 7-1 before the 25-16, 25-17, 25-18 defeat. Vail Christian (3-2) heads to Addenbrooke Classical Academy on Tuesday.

Battle Mountain picked up a 25-20, 25-21, 27-29, 25-18 road win over Steamboat Springs on Thursday to improve to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play. The Huskies host Eagle Valley (5-2), which was locked in a Saturday battle with the Sailors when this edition of the Vail Daily went to press.

Soccer notes: Eagle Valley plays Glenwood Springs to a tie

Eagle Valley played Glenwood Springs to a 0-0 tie on Thursday to improve to 2-2-1 on the season. The Demons (4-1-1) were coming off a 2-1 win over Battle Mountain on Tuesday. The Devils were in action Saturday against Frontier Academy and travel to Delta on Tuesday.

Vail Mountain School received goals from Rutley Heinemann and Drew Johnson in Friday’s 2-1 win over Fruita Monument. The Gore Rangers came back for a 3-1 win over Coal Ridge, which lost in the 3A state semifinals last year, on Saturday to improve to 3-2. VMS hosts Rifle next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
