Saints and Devils soccer squads pick up victories and runners head to Arcadia Invite

The Battle Mountain boys lacrosse team fell to Fruita Monument 7-5 on Thursday in Edwards. The No. 13-ranked Huskies (4-4) will try to end a three-game losing streak on Saturday at home against No. 3 Aspen.

Other prep notes: Saints and Devils soccer teams win and local runners head to Arcadia Invite

  • The Vail Mountain School boys lacrosse squad lost to Steamboat Springs 12-4 on Thursday at home. The Gore Rangers are now 4-6 overall and 2-2 in league play. They’re back in action on Saturday at home against Glenwood Springs.
  • The Eagle Valley girls soccer team won its second-straight game on Tuesday. The Devils shut out Glenwood Springs 2-0 to improve to 4-5-2 on the year and 2-1-1 in league play.
  • The Vail Christian girls soccer team defeated Colorado Rocky Mountain School 3-1 on the road on Thursday. The Saints (3-2 overall, 2-0 league) will take their three-game winning streak into Friday’s game against Grand Valley (1-8).
  • The Vail Christian girls tennis team swept the singles but fell in four doubles matches in Thursday’s match against Eaton. No. 1 singles Jessie Allen defeated Chole Crider 6-0, 6-1, No. 2 singles Alexa Blanch took down Harley Forster 6-1, 6-0, and No. 3 singles Heidi Iverson shut out Avery Haggard 6-0, 6-0. The No. 1, 3 and 4 doubles matches went all the way to the third set. Madi Smith and Trinity Salberg defeated Olivia Zajaz and Sabrina Nabonsal 5-7, 7-6, 10-6 at No. 1 doubles and Evelyn South and Aya Kinoshita took down Ella Pecinka and Paige Asbury 7-5, 5-7, 10-7 at the No. 3 doubles. Eaton’s No. 4 doubles team defeated Chloe Demmier and Anabelle Woodbridge 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8. In the No. 2 doubles match, Lily Kennedy and Evie Gavette defeated Vail Christian’s Autumn Woods and Camden Allen 6-2, 6-2.
  • A trio of local distance runners are headed to California this weekend for the Arcadia Invitational. Eagle Valley junior Dylan Blair is competing in the 3200-meter seeded field on Saturday at 8:20 p.m. Summit’s Josh Shriver will run in the third heat of the men’s open 3200-meters at 8:08 PM as well as the mile run invitational on Saturday at 7:59 p.m. Fellow Tiger Ella Hagen is slated for the 2-mile invitational on Saturday at 8:06 p.m., a race in which Utah star Jane Hedengren is expected to challenge the national prep record. Over 57 runnings of the meet, the Arcadia Invitational has hosted 32 national records and seen 179 future U.S. Olympians compete. Last year, 69 boys broke the 9-minute barrier in the 3200-meters at Arcadia, including Battle Mountain’s Porter Middaugh, who ran the second-fastest Colorado time in history (8:41.02).
