Primary polls open Tuesday

Polls open Tuesday for primaries that will decide Colorado congressional candidates. Republican voters will choose between businessman Pete Coors and former Congressman Bob Schaffer to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Democrats will chose between newcomer Mike Miles and Attorney General Ken Salazar. Republicans in Eagle County will also choose either Michael P. Kennedy or Stephen M. Hackman to run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Mark Udall, the Democrat from Boulder. The only other contested race is for University of Colorado regent. Wally Stealy and Jim Martin are vying for the Democratic nomination for this position.

Polling locations are listed on the Eagle County Web site: eaglecounty.us. Go to “County Services,” click on Clerk and Recorder and then check the “Voting and Election” heading. Voters can also call the Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 328-8728.Identification is required to vote in Colorado. Acceptable forms of identification include: A valid Colorado driver’s license A valid Colorado Department of Revenue identification card A valid military identification card with a photograph A valid U.S. Passport A valid pilot’s license issued by the FAA or other governmental agency A valid U.S. government identification card with a picture A valid Medicaid or Medicare cardUnaffiliated voters can affiliate at the polling place on Election Day simply by filling out a “Declaration of Affiliation” form.
