Professor to examine political faultlines
EDWARDS – Political rifts in America will be the topic of University of Denver political science Professor Spencer Wellhofer’s talk at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Edwards. Wellhofer will talk about the “New Populism Movement” in contemporary American politics and the parallels to the Populism Movement of the post Civil War period: anti-intellectualism and rejection of science; anti-elitism; religious revivalism; and overseas military in the name of promoting democracy, among other topics.
Wellhofer received his Ph.D. from Columbia University, and his research has been funded by the Fulbright Program, the Ford Foundation and the National Science Foundation. He was awarded the University of Denver Distinguished Scholar award for the 1994-1995. Wellhofer is the director of the university’s European studies program.Admission is $10 for Vail Symposium supporters and $15 for all others.
