Property value appeals slightly ahead of 2007 in Eagle County

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” More people have appealed their property valuations in Eagle County, Colorado so far this month than at the same time in 2007.
As of Monday, the county assessor’s office had received 2,438 property valuation appeals ” a 9 percent increase compared to the same time period in 2007. But thousands more would have to challenge their valuation in order to reach the 5,500 total appeals in 2007.
The county assessor’s office reappraised property values in the county between Jan. 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008. The new valuations ” which will be used to calculate property taxes in 2009 and 2010 ” were mailed at the beginning of the month and went up an average of 13 percent.
June 1 is the last day for county residents to challenge their property valuation determined by the county.
About 15 percent of county property owners challenge their valuations, according to County Assessor Mark Chapin.

A cash reward is being offered for information leading to locating Ryan Daniels. The local 19-year old man went missing May 22.
