Public hearing on Eagle County budget is Tuesday
Eagle County, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – The Eagle County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2010 budget at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in the Eagle County Room, located at 500 Broadway in Eagle. The meeting will also be available for viewing live on ecotv18, channel 18 on the cable system, as well as live online at http://www.ecotv18.com.
As proposed, the 2010 budget represents a 14 percent decrease from 2009 spending and a 16 percent decrease from 2008. The cuts are being made through a combination of reduced program costs, an early retirement offer to several employees and staff reductions.
Due to the two-year reappraisal schedule mandated by the state, property tax revenue is anticipated to decrease at least 20 percent by 2012. The commissioners have indicated they expect to keep the county’s combined mill levy at 8.499 for 2010. As part of the budget process, the board discussed potential methods for property tax refunds or rebates, as well as a temporary mill levy reduction. An overview of the options considered will be presented at Tuesday’s meeting.
Public comment on the budget will be welcome. Residents can comment in advance via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information, contact Eagle County Finance Director John Lewis, 970-328-3511.
