Public safety building groundbreaking is Thursday
AVON — The town of Avon and Eagle River Fire Protection District will host a groundbreaking ceremony for a new joint public safety facility Thursday at 10 a.m. The new facility is at the intersection of Nottingham Road and Swift Gulch Road in Avon.
The facility, which will house Avon’s police department and serve as a regional fire station, is expected to open in late 2017 and will replace those agencies’ inadequate and aged facilities, as well as move emergency response out of the pedestrian core of Avon. The Buck Creek site’s location provides improved response to Interstate 70 for vehicular emergencies, quick access to Avon town core, Wildridge and Mountain Star neighborhoods and the Walmart/ Traer Creek development, as well as more effective dispatch of the ladder truck throughout the fire district’s regional service area.
Designed by Davis Partnership Architects, the Avon Joint Public Safety Facility incorporates the latest in energy efficiency. The facility will provide shared space for combined agency training and meeting needs, as well as:
• Accommodating relocation of the ladder truck to the Avon core.
• Facilitating police and fire working collaboratively on a day-to-day basis.
