Pueblo man suspected of killing mother, 86

PUEBLO ” Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting and killing his 86-year-old mother outside her home.

Landon L. Avery, 42, was jailed Monday night on suspicion of first-degree murder. His mother, Mary Lynn Avery, died at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center shortly before 9 p.m., Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer said.

An arrest warrant did not list a motive.

Police were also searching for two suspects in the unrelated shooting death of a cab driver early Tuesday.

David Chance, 51, was found inside his cab with a gunshot wound in his head. He was pronounced dead at about 1:30 a.m., the coroner said.
