Pueblo police: Suspect killed by officers was armed
PUEBLO, Colorado ” Authorities say a suspect who was shot and killed by Pueblo police was believed to be armed and said he wouldn’t be taken alive.
Fifty-four-year-old David Leroy Wiggs of Florence was killed Wednesday. He was wanted on suspicion of sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Authorities launched an intensive search for Wiggs earlier Wednesday after they were told he threatened family members. It’s not clear who reported the threats.
Police say they found no weapon with Wiggs’ body but they believe he had been armed. They say they found shell casings in his car.
An autopsy is planned.
Police say two officers have been placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. Their names haven’t been released.
