Quartet San Francisco coming to Beaver Creek

BEAVER CREEK ” For some people, mention of a “Chamber Quartet” recalls fearful images of Baroque music, staid repertoire and snoozing in your seat.

Well, Quartet San Francisco (QSF) isn’t your average Chamber Quartet. Their cutting-edge sound fuses influences as diverse as tango, pop, funk, bluegrass, gypsy swing, big band and more. They are masters of crossover ” they move seamlessly from one genre to the next, taking the audience on an oratory voyage through music history.

Quartet San Francisco is made up of violinists Jeremy Cohen and Kayo Miki, violist Keith Lawrence and cellist Joel Cohen.

Come along for the ride when they take the Vilar Performing Arts Center stage on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

QSF has earned two Grammy nominations. The first was for their Latin and tango CD “Latigo,” which was honored with nominations for Best Classical Crossover and Best Engineered, Classical. The second nomination recognized their album Whirled Chamber Music, “what could easily be the most cheerful and brilliantly-executed release of 2007.” (All About Jazz).

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

They were also recognized as International Tango competition winners, showing the breadth and diversity of their offerings.

“The quartet rewarded the sellout audience with an incandescent performance of tango and jazz music,” wrote The Sacramento Bee. “They played with ardor and flair … You don’t often get to see chamber musicians have that much fun onstage. And in the final accounting, isn’t that what chamber music is really all about?”

Since its concert debut in 2001, QSF has offered its musical literature to local, national and international audiences in a variety of venues, large and small. They return to Beaver Creek for an encore performance. And, as audiences discovered when the QSF played the Vilar Center previously, this is not your father’s chamber music! Don’t miss this night of diverse and exciting music.
