VAIL, Colorado – Today’s warm sunny weather should be replaced by a strong, slow-moving storm that will bring rain and snow back to the Vail Valley starting Wednesday.

Wet, windy and colder weather could last through the weekend, the National Weather Service says.

Winds will pick up Wednesday, with 50 mph gusts expected over the mountains. The wind will blow ahead of cold front expected to move through the region Wednesday night, the National Weather Service says.

Snow should begin falling on mountain peaks Wednesday evening and drop into the valleys later Thursday as much colder air plows into the region, the National Weather Service says.

Thursday’s high will only reach the lows 40s, says the Weather Service, which is not yet predicting snow totals.
