Rec district offers new adult cornhole league

VAIL — The Vail Recreation District will introduce an adult cornhole league beginning July 9. The league will take place every Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at the Vail Athletic Field near the sand volleyball courts until Aug. 21. Registration is underway until July 6 and the cost is $50 per team of two. Two alternates must be assigned to each team. The league will be capped at 16 teams.

According to Vail Recreation District Sports Coordinator Alexander Darbut, cornhole, also known as tailgate, bean bag toss, baggo or, simply, bags, is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores three points, while one on the platform scores one point. Play continues until a team or player reaches the score of 21. The cornhole matches will follow American Cornhole Association official rules.

“The Thursday night Cornhole League will be a new outlet for those who want a relaxed and easy-going activity to wind down every week,” Darbut said. “I’m excited to begin this new league and hope teams will look forward to spending Thursday evenings with us this summer.”

CROWNING A CHAMPION

Final matches will take place Aug. 21 to determine the league winners and be followed by an after party at the Altitude Bar and Grill, located in the Evergreen Lodge. During the after party, the winning team will receive a $100 gift card to the Altitude Bar and Grill.
