Recycle your snowboards, boots and poles in Vail

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado ” Locals will have a chance to recycle their old ski and snowboard gear for free Nov. 13 to Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The drop-off location is at the east end of the Lionshead parking structure in Vail, Colorado.

There is no charge for dropping off the old gear. Equipment in good condition will be donated to charitable programs. Equipment not suitable for charitable ski programs will be taken to a facility south of Denver, where it will be shredded and used in a variety of new products including composite decking, flooring and furniture.

The town of Vail teamed up with Vail Sports, Vail Resorts and SnowSports Industries America to offer the recycling effort.

Meanwhile, Vail Sports has announced it will be adding $2 to the purchase of every pair of skis, boots and snowboards sold in their shops to help offset the costs of recycling. Buyers who don’t wish to support the new recycling effort can opt out of the charge.

For more information, call town of Vail Environmental Health Officer Bill Carlson at (970)479-2333.
