If you vote …

What: Red Cliff mayor, board of trustees election.

Where: Town Hall, 400 Pine St.

When: April 5, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Absentee ballots are available at town offices.)

RED CLIFF — When residents head to the poll at Town Hall on Tuesday, they will see one name on the ballot for mayor and six names for four board of trustees seats. But some candidates have pulled out, according to Barb Smith, the town’s administrator and clerk.

Since the ballots had to be submitted and printed months ago, some candidates have since decided they don’t want one of the trustee positions, Smith said. However, she has received little confirmation from the candidates on their positions, she said.

Anushka Bales is running unopposed for mayor. Jake Spears, Jay Raiola, Valerie Blevins, Lorenzo Sandoval, Jason Moore and Amelia Neat are the names on the ballot for the four trustee positions available.

Raiola was the only one to respond confirming her withdrawal, despite being on the ballot.

If a candidate is elected but doesn’t want the position, then he or she will have to write a letter of resignation. The newly elected board would then appoint people for the open seats. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and a current Red Cliff resident with at least one year of residency in town.

The new board will continue the work to bring Internet service to town, working with the U.S. Forest Service for a tower near Ski Cooper as well as working to upgrade infrastructure and services.

The current board completed its work with water infrastructure in town.

The four trustee positions carry different terms: three four-year terms and one three-year term. After the new board is sworn in, an additional seat will be filled because Bales will be vacating her position on the board to fill the mayor’s position. The new board will appoint this two-year term.

The polling place election takes place on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Town Hall in Red Cliff. If voters can’t make it, absentee ballots are available for request at the town offices.
