Red Cliff: Shop owner touched woman lewdly, cops say

RED CLIFF, Colorado ” An 85-year-old liquor store owner accused of touching a woman “inappropriately” has been released from jail, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said.
John Louis Martinez, 85, a Red Cliff resident and owner of Johnny’s Liquor in Red Cliff, hugged a 23-year-old woman and touched her when she stopped at his store to buy cigarettes Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office said. Shannon Cordingly, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office declined to comment further on the touch.
The woman told Martinez “no” and pushed him away, the Sheriff’s Office said. Martinez followed her out of his store and offered to pay her $5 if he could touch her again, the Sheriff’s Office said.
She woman drove to Minturn Police Department and reported the incident, Cordingly said.
Martinez was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor unlawful sexual contact Wednesday and was released from Eagle County jail that night on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
A woman who answered a number listed as Martinez’s declined to let Martinez respond to the accusation and hung up the phone.
