Referendum 2A, Gypsum sales tax

Daily Staff Report

Gypsum residents will be asked to authorize an increase in the town’s sales tax from 3 to 4 percent to build an $8.5 million town recreation center. If approved, the increase in sales tax will begin Jan. 1, 2005 and the measure has a sunset provision that would rescind the tax once all the costs of the recreation center have been paid.

The town will use the additional money raised by the sales tax to pay off the cost of floating municipal bonds to build the facility.
