Renovation continues at Lion Square Lodge in Vail

VAIL, Colorado – Renovation work continues this year at Lion Square Lodge at the Gondola, which is managed by Wyndham Vacation Rentals.

Built in the early 1970s, the lodge has three buildings – East, South and North. A $33 million renovation at the North building was completed in 2009. That project included adding nine condos of between two and six bedrooms to the Tower Residences.

A project to renovate the South and the East buildings – all three designed by Denver architect Chip Melick – began in April of this year. The South building will re-open for the upcoming ski season in November of this year. The East building will re-open in July of next year. The North building will remain open during the projects.

Overlooking Vail Mountain and Gore Creek, the $4 million South building renovation includes the addition of a second elevator in the main lobby that will serve all seven floors, additional square footage for five condominiums, and major exterior renovation including decorative roof gables, stucco improvements, exterior painting, balcony upgrades and a roof replacement.

More than 40 solar panels will be installed on the roof to supplement hot water needs for the restaurant, lodging units, pool and spas. Hyder Construction of Denver is the contractor at the South Building.

The $11 million East building renovation project will add square footage and upgrades to all units. The addition of ski yard stairs will allow owners and guests to access the ski yard directly from their units. Other improvements include four new elevators and exterior upgrades to include the addition of decorative roof gables, stucco improvements, exterior painting, balcony upgrades and a roof replacement. Most of the units will undergo major renovations of the interior finishes. Viele Construction of Vail is the contractor at the East Building.

“The property has always been very popular and the new updates to the unit interiors and the common areas and exterior will be a wonderful upgrade,” said Wyndham Vacation Rentals Western Regional Vice President and General Manager of Lion Square Lodge Bill Anderson. “The owners are making a major commitment to ensure Lion Square Lodge remains a premier property in Vail. We are thankful to Vail Resorts and the town of Vail for working with us in a tight location here next to the gondola. We have great contractors and are off to a very good start. We are excited.”
